From Primitivo grapes, carefully selected in the heart of the DOP and hand-harvested in crates, comes the wine Papale Linea Oro, produced by the Taranto-based company Varvaglione1921. Ruby red in color, with a round and soft taste evoking aromas of jam and berries, it is a wine that excellently represents its territory with a significant structure while maintaining the elegance that distinguishes it. The Primitivo grapes are carefully selected from bush-trained vineyards, about 60 years old, cultivated in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP. The winemaking process is very slow and includes a delicate aging phase in French oak and American barriques for at least 10 months. The Papale Linea Oro wine, besides being the flagship of the producer Varvaglione Vigne e Vini, also pays tribute to the land where it is born. Its name comes from the area where its Primitivo grapes are grown, “Contrada Papale,” which originally belonged to the only Puglian pope to date (Pope Benedict XIII) and is still used to cultivate bush-trained Primitivo di Manduria vineyards. This wine has received numerous awards, including gold medals at the A.W\.C. Vienna, Berliner Wein Trophy, Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, and C.W\.S.A. The weekly pocket magazine “Salento in Tasca,” distributed in the main gathering places of the province of Lecce in its 937th edition on February 10, 2017, features the Papale Linea Oro from Varvaglione.
