GRAPE VARIETIES

OUR LAND

Our land is primarily clay and chalky, with a presence of fossils and iron oxide that give the land a natural red color. Iron helps drainage, avoiding wet stagnation after the rains. This is why red soil is among the best for growing grapes for wine. The mild climate of the plains of the Salento region benefits the inland area as well as the coast. While principally a Mediterranean climate, there may be moments of continental climate. Winters are mostly warm, but sometimes cold blasts of air from the east bring precipitation which could even be snow at times. Summers in Taranto are very hot and humid, with temperatures reaching even 100 degrees.
