Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri 2021
“Every man has the right to dedicate some time to himself… I did it like this.”
With these words, Cosimo Varvaglione comments the wines of the Private Collection that bears his name. His signature Negroamaro and Primitivo wines represent the maximum expression of these native grape varieties that the owner of the winery has created. And it is precisely the Cosimo Varvaglione Private Collection Negroamaro Old Vines ’17 to be awarded the Tre Bicchieri 2021, the most important recognition given by the Gambero Rosso.
This wine embodies Cosimo Varvaglione’s winemaking vision and approach, his perfectionism, the careful attention to the vineyard and dedication to quality.
Varvaglione has dedicated his life to a passion for wine; from childhood, he followed in his father’s footsteps experiencing the excitement and sacrifices associated with the harvest. Today, that dedication is passed down to his three children Marzia, Angelo and Francesca, who are by his side in running the family business.
It is now time to reap the fruits of the teamwork that has brought a positive outcome, and celebrate an achievement that recognizes the history, quality and identity that go into a wine that is the emblem of Cosimo Varvaglione’s style.
More good news for the winery from Taranto came with the Touring Club guide Vini Buoni d’Italia, which awarded 4 Stars to two Varvaglione wines: Papale Oro Primitivo di Manduria, the winery’s international flagship wine, as well as Primitivo di Manduria Collezione Privata Cosimo Varvaglione Old Vines 2017. And 3 Stars were given the Negroamaro Collezione Privata Cosimo Varvaglione.
Last but not least, a new prize for the super successful Idea, rosé of Primitivo di Manduria, selected by the Guide “Rosa Rosati Rosè” 2020 – 2021.
And so we come full circle on the choices that have brought both wine-making and commercial success to Varvaglione 1921.
